Helen Bailie was born in Brisbane, Australia. As a high school teacher, always wanted to instill a love of reading in her students, as well as help them become lifelong learners, readers. She realized that teachers play an important role in the lives of children, how they growand develop in young adults, and she treasures the opportunities she had to help students develop good reading skills, excel in your chosen profession and to become productive members of society.
Tyler: Thank you for your entry to me today, Helen. I understand, "Azura Stones" is an adventure, with some children during their school holidays. To get started, tell us something about Hayley and what is it interesting, the main character?
Helen: I have described mymain character, Hayley, as the ultimate heroine-adventurous, courageous, original and loyal individuals in the novel, which remains stable and strong in every situation. Hayley has a very positive outlook on life and she lives at the negatives when in crisis. Has initiative and drive to work through difficult situations and the power to encourage their friends when the going gets tough. I love new challenges and thrive in an environment where she is confronted with new challengessolution, while at the same time, is realistic and logical in decision making. This is her strength, determination and loyalty, which helps to pull her friends through difficult times that face the dangerous adventure.
Tyler: What is that Hayley finds that begins an adventure?
Helen: At the beginning of the novel the reader learns that Hayley's grandfather, a world-renowned archaeologist, who died, and that all of his expedition journals disappeared. His death was verysudden, as Hayley wonder if he in fact die of natural causes. That is when stumbles on his latest book, something kept secret from her and her parents that she understands the importance of what appeared to the mountain and Silvertop how dangerous his last expedition was. This is the beginning of an adventure that she and her friends will never forget.
Tyler: Why did Hayley include your friends in the adventure, and what they doadd to the story?
Helen: Hayley, Alex and Spence were friends since elementary school. When the article entitled "Gold is found in the river Niobe" appears in the local newspapers, Hayley and her friends decide to plan a trip during the summer holidays. While in the attic looking for camping gear and surveying the pelvis, children encounter daily grandfather Hayley outlining expedition he was working on before he died. In his diary, he mentions that he foundlost Indian civilization, which sought and found some very strange looking rocks that this tribe possessed. He died when the stones could be retrieved. Children recognize the importance and urgency of finding these stones, so take matters into their own hands and then Hayley grandfather map to find Azura Stones.
Hayley, Alex and Spence are best friends, and the beginning of the novel, the reader can see the loyalty, trust and close bond to each other. When, when Spence is in a difficult situation, he chooses to handle himself, rather than entrusted to his two friends. Throughout the novel we see a change of personality Spence as he struggles with the decision made, and the dilemma is built in. This friendship and burdensome for some interesting twists in the storyline that the reader will not expect.
Tyler: Helen, tell us whatexactly Azura Stones and why they are so important to find?
Helen: Azura Stones are unlike all the stones have been discovered earlier. Sapphire color with a strange, snowflake design in the center, which glows in the dark, has very special characteristics which children are aware, until halfway through the novel.
Note departed grandfather Hayley points out that other men-men of the notorious crime gang-are aware that these stones exist and they areSearch Azura Stones. Children realize that only magazine Hayley's grandfather is the key to where are the stones. Children are determined to follow the map Hayley's grandfather went to his diary and find the stones before they fall into the wrong hands.
Tyler: You mentioned that the stones belonged to a lost Native American civilization. Can you tell us more about this civilization, and why the stones were important for its people?
Helen:Archaeologists believe that the first Native Americans came to America from Asia and settled in the southwestern United States. Civilization in my novel is based on the possibility that a small group separated and decided to live in the northwest mountains. Over time, developed a legend among the neighboring Indian tribes around the mysterious tribe living in the Cascades. Legend told of strange stones, which is available-stones so strong that otherstrains were afraid to enter their territory. The importance of these stones in this strain are described in detail throughout the novel.
Tyler: Can you tell us something about the way children reach Azura Stones?
Helen: children who live in the fictional town Shastar Hills in the State of Washington, the trip to Silvertop mountains, extinct volcanoes located in the Cascade Mountains. Being summer, much of the mountain is overgrown, so the increase moredifficult than children realize. The fact that children have to take matters into their own hands and go into the Cascades increased tension throughout the novel as the reader is left wondering about the possible dangers that lie ahead of them on an adventure.
Tyler: Why did you choose to set the novel in the State of Washington? Outside the city Shastar Hills, you imagined, you create many other aspects of the setting or people familiar with theWashington recognize the area?
Helen: I traveled in the State of Washington on his last trip to the United States. There were so many beautiful areas that I visited, that was the inspiration for my novel. Although most of the geographical location of my novel are fictional, I made reference to Lake Chelan, Columbia River and Rattlesnake apartment (which I renamed the Rattlesnake Plains in the novel) to people familiar with Washington should be able to determine where ShastarHills will be located.
Tyler: What kinds of responses have you received so far from readers' Azura Stones "?

Tyler: Helen, what gave you the idea to write "AzuraStones?
Helen: I always like to read and is fond memories of days spent as a child reading classic adventure novels. I realized that it is important for children to develop good literacy, and that these abilities are significantly improved if the child is reading.
Over the years, I was a teacher, I noticed the decline in the number of children who have reading and literacy eventually decline. It seems that many children struggling with literacy,Which affects their enjoyment of reading. I wanted to write a book that would have been full of adventure and tension, as well as written a simpler style, which will help encourage more children to read and develop a delight to read. E-mail I received from one of my readers indicates that the novel was my first book, which read in its entirety. This is great feedback for me, knowing that I have a child who suddenly likes reading helped to start developing activities for this wonderfulfun.
Tyler: Helen, what do you attribute the decline in literacy and enjoyment in reading in children? What do you think can be done to change this downward trend?
Helen: Reading to children from an early age is very important. I remember when I was as young as two, if my mother read stories to me every night before going to bed. Saw I was glad to read over the years, it was a big influence on my life and propelledReading desire in me. So I think that more time spent with children, reading and expose them to the rich variety of exciting adventure and fantasy in so many classic books that will help them develop a love of reading, and this will improve their literacy.
Tyler: Helen, what are the adventurous novels you read as a child? Which books or authors you would say the effects of their own writing?
Helen: I have so many favorite novels, which Iare listed on my website, but it is my all-time favorite novels, I enjoyed reading (and still are reading):
"Journey to the Center of the Earth" Jules Verne "Time Machine" HG Wells, "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson, "Swiss Family Robinson 'Johann Wyss," Watership Down "by Richard Adams," Charlotte Web "EB White," Tom Midnight Garden "by Philippa Pearce, and" The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes "by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Love richimages of both Jules Verne and HG Wells. Their novels, as well as my interest in archeology and history influenced my writing.
Tyler: Helen, you would say that the theme for "Azura Stones", or some sense of hope that your readers will come away with?
Helen: There are several major themes that I developed throughout the novel.
One of the main themes in my novel is friendship, how to deal with friends and what it means to show loyalty to your friends.Hayley is the best friend you would like to have. Throughout the novel the reader is exposed to between Hayley and her two friends, Alex and Spence, and the difficulties which they find themselves in the course of their dangerous adventures. Hayley helps keep friends together, and when her friends are finding it difficult to cope with each other's weakness, she helps Alex Spence and understand what it really means to be a true friend.
Another major issue is the choiceand its consequences. The situation of children are at substantially tests their friendship with each other. When faced with difficult situations, are forced to make decisions that eventually led to consequences, either good or bad. In addition, affect their friendship, their decisions ultimately place their lives in danger. There is some self-reflection throughout the novel between children who intend decision made and the consequences of those decisionsto one another and others around them. I hope that readers will come away with the concept that it is important to think about the consequences before deciding.
Tyler: You've always wanted to be a writer of books for children?
Helen: I've always loved writing, even though in the first place, I always wanted to work in a job where I could help children to excel their learning, to excel in life and better as individuals, so the reason I became a teacher. As an English teacher, I started writing short stories and use these in class to teach not only literacy, but also life skills. My students liked the stories I read them, so I decided to write full-length novel.
