You heard phrase referring to "Learning to learn from Vietnam," no?
Let these words mean?
Exactly what errors are speaking, when referring to this protracted debacle?
It was a mistake going to war, which had begun under the French colonial occupation?
It was an intellectual mistake of bundling "Communism" together?
It was a mistake, escalating?
It was a mistake, but our recognitionincreasing losses previously, and finds an exit strategy that could save lives?
It was a mistake to believe that our military credibility around the world, especially in hostile camps would be undermined suffer "loss?" In this engagement?
It was a mistake to believe that gunboat diplomacy can remake civilization, and especially in our own design?
I ask these questions because I am deeply convinced that no consensus mistakes we made, strategically, tactically and politically.
Now that the Democrats won control of Congress and even the president believes that the elections were a referendum on the war, what to do with Iraq and, more importantly, how will we explain themselves and the world makes our justification?
Remember "Vietnamization?" It was a drawn out process of helping the South Vietnamese to "fight their own war." But our training and materials and money, could not stop in Saigonfalling into the hands of Ho Chi Minh.
We are hearing about "Iraqization" now only less polemical name.
The problem is we do not learn from the past, and as a wise man once said that we are doomed to repeat it.
Pity we can not open a genuine debate on these wars and finally learn something from them.
