Bern: Bears town, tourists, and history

The best part of Europe, where you really experience the Alps in the middle of Switzerland, the Berner Oberland region. Berner Oberland region, where cows graze on pasture during the warmer seasons, the starting point for hiking tours, excursions to the high end of the Alps, rail and cable car lifts, plus many other activities. Here you can enjoy the natural world while enjoying the most modern material while undertaking some very bold adventure.

InSwitzerland in general and in particular the Bernese Oberland visit the major city of Bern at the river Aare, a wise decision. Here is a tidbit for writers. Bern is a city where the first international copyright laws adopted during the late nineteenth century.

The city of Bern, at an altitude of 1800 ft, snuggles into the U-shaped arm of the river Aare, extending its reach from side to side, according to historical bridges and railways. Surrounded by densely wooded areas and mountains, the Bernnot crowded city, except for tourists.

Walking tour in good weather - begins after the Hauptbahnhof (train station) and stretching along one street, which does not even take two miles - gives travelers the feeling of an old town with cobblestone streets, the famous clock tower (no, not as high as Big Ben, but his time is more visible), many of the old spectacular water fountain yet, monuments and the cathedral. On one of the fountains - I believe it is called "JusticeFountain "- action figure of justice on the heads of criminals.

Bern railway station has three levels of shopping, which introduces carrying equipment. Bear toys, bear numbers, and all around the bears may be seen throughout the city. Two live bear pits can be shown in the case of an automatic dispenser or human carrots carrots suppliers are used to feed bears.

On our way, we were told that bears are a symbol of Bern since the twelfth century. Legend or fact,is that the Duke, who founded the city said that the name of the city after the first animal he shot. (Nice guy!) He made the bear and he named the city Baren bear, who has become Bern. For the same reason, bear an indication of the national flag and the coat of arms.

Bern is the astronomical clock tower is located on the eastern gate to the right around the market where it is possible to buy Swiss goods at a much lower price than buying them here at home in the U.S. on imported price. Every hourper hour, when the clock strikes, there is a four minute speech quite a few pieces. According to Father Time watches, rings bells in the clown parade of bears, a knight in armor and a rooster crowing. This routine, we were informed, has been going on since the sixteenth century.

In Berne, each strand has a story or depict any images. Strangest one, I thought the fountain was a child-eating ogre.

What we saw was a cannibal child while eatingeconomy, the other children to be consumed later. Maybe it was the oppressive feudalism, which produced such bloody ideas. Someone remarked that the ogre representatives of European Jews, which made my hair stand on end. For a continent that boasts that civilized and open-minded and gentlemen thought that the U.S. and many other countries, Switzerland - in fact the whole of Europe - whether it is ugly, shameful past.

Many people climb 270 steps to the huge towerfamous Cathedral of St. Vincent in Bern and say that the sight of the Alps is fantastic from the top. Well, not me. I had climbed the Statue of Liberty in New York, and although I was 23 years later, it was enough to teach me a lesson about climbing the tower stairs. Yet, inside the cathedral is a beautiful antique stained glass panels, while the tympanum on the west facade of the cathedral is decorated with very nearly 250 figures showing the last court. Someone must havecounted because they told us that number.

Right around the Cathedral, facing the fountain of Moses and then the place where Einstein lived and probably developed his theory of relativity, while he worked at the University of Bern. The Swiss are very proud to be Einstein lived here and also in their higher education, which led the world into moment.

Main street lined with houses and shops built several centuries, and in good condition is called Marktgasse.Famous prison tower now serves as a kind of museum is located on Marktgasse.

There are several museums in Bern. We went inside the Swiss Alpine Museum, which contains old maps of the Alps, climbing equipment used for centuries, models of mountain huts and all for the exploration of the Alps. It was pretty interesting, but could not match the beauty of the mountains themselves.

An interesting aspect of Bern were many flags hangingand waving everywhere. I thought they had a public holiday, but they told me that the flags remained at all times.

Bern is a very nice, tidy town. Passages connect the streets lined with vendors, the streets are full of small shops and small, clean restaurant. Many species of flowers can be seen everywhere. Along the windows of almost every house is filled with at least flowerboxes geraniums, and where tourists stand fatigue from walking, horse and cattle market, the view ofsee.

After all, hike in Bern is very nice, because in a small cafe or chocolate shop, weary traveler always excellent Swiss "coffee and chocolate 'break.
