Ski Jumping in Zakopane, Poland

As an Englishman from Hull, most of you ever actually see or hear Ski jumping is on TV every few years when the Olympic Games or some joke about the Eddy Eagle, the boy from Cheltenham, who joined the Olympic Games in Calgary in 1988 as British ski jumper. The basic idea sounds simple, go to the ramp, and then go off the end of the ramp trying to fly what you can and smooth manner possible. I never tried, but in 2007 I was in Zakopane, Polandfirst time and got a chance to go to see the live World Cup ski jumping event. My jaw dropped when I saw the first athlete to the sky, close-up ramp is huge and very high. These guys should be able to see that the whole Zakopane, because rising into the air.

Although I now appreciate much more skill to be ski jumping still I can not watch it. My personal opinion is that it was very repetitive, not much difference from jump to jump, maybeA slight difference in style, but on the whole something I will never buy a ticket again, either in Poland or not. I am not anti-country skiing, freestyle snowboarder and I love nothing more than hitting big jumps, spinning and flipping, I could watch skiers and snowboarders to ski all day. Only ski jumping straight and never change!

During the last 4 years that I was in Zakopane, I was amazed every year, why literally thousands and thousands of people fromPoland floods all around the city each year for 3 days of ski jumping. Why go back and watch the same people jumping off the same ramp and why Zakopane town turns into a carnival! Small town in southern Poland, the changes in a mad place for 3 days in January just because of the jump.

And history is not easy, it's all blamed on the guy from Wisla in southern Poland, Adam Malysz. Adam ski jumping in Poland, is what David Beckhamto football in England - icon, legend and someone who does all these people in flood Zakopane for 3 days of partying and celebrations. Regarded as one of the best and most successful ski jumpers of all time, Adam Malysz won 4 World Cup ski titles (3 back to back), 38 World Cup and is adorned with the greatest man in the history of the World Cup.

Adam began his career in 1995 and gained fame in 2001 won 11 World Cup in oneseason. Was written off several times and still surprising people by winning the major events of his recent success winning the 2007 World Cup. Although now 28, which is still a bit in ski jumping said that he had something about him that people are desperate to win it again, which is why we are so happy that the takeover of Zakopane, in the hope of seeing their heroes win just one last time at home in Poland.

Adam's nickname is "Flying Mustache" because of itssmall mustache and the fact his personal best jump is 225 m, it is BIG!

So when he comes in Zakopane Ski Calendar, Zakopane, Poland come to see their heroes. Personally, I live far away and I'm heading to snowboard somewhere away from the carnival. I would say that is definitely worth experiencing just because one of the atmosphere created around Zakopane.

I'll be interested to see what happens when Zakopane ski jumping Malysz one retires toThose thousands of fans love the sport enough to keep coming, or are simply happy because they had a popular Polish champion? We'll see.
